A SHARC™-based enhancement of the Acroamatics Model 505V PDSP, the 505VA increases processing performance by a full order of magnitude

 

Overview

 

The Programmable Data Stream Processor provides data manipulation, data compression, and formatting, and can perform over 300 processing algorithms including routines for integer-to-floating-point and floating-point-to-integer conversions. Various algorithms process and format the data for transmission to devices such as digital-to-analog converters, discrete outputs, the host DMA port, or the internal feedback port to the distribution input. These algorithms include input and output data type conversion, data packing and compression, bit and limit checking, derived parameter calculation, 5th order polynomial conversion, and custom output formatting. The processor has a 25 nanosecond cycle time and is based on the Analog Devices ADSP-21060 Sharc DSP.   The PDSP is user programmable with Analog Devices software. The PDSP performs input conversions and automatically builds output streams.

PROCESSING

Input Data Types Six 16-bit input types supported: 2’s comp, 1’s comp, sign magnitude, offset binary, unsigned magnitude, & binary-coded decimal, three 32-bit types are supported: signed integers, IEEE, and MIL-Std floating point formats.

Output Data Types Five 16-bit input types supported: 2’s comp, 1’s comp, sign magnitude, offset binary, & unsigned magnitude.

Four 32-bit types are supported: signed & unsigned integers, IEEE, & MIL-Std floating point formats

Algorithms Over 300 algorithms performed, plus sequential algorithm chaining and user-defined expression processing.

Algorithms include: integer-to-floating-point & floating-point-to integer conversion, limit & bit testing, data, data packing, linear data scaling, 5th order conversion, table lookup conversion, derived parameter calculation, & custom output formatting.

Throughput Rate Algorithm execution times range from .375 to .5 microseconds. Aggregate throughput for processed data to a specified output device is approximately 2.2 mega samples/ps. Max throughput (raw output) to host DMA channel is approximately 1.375 mega samples/ps. Throughput to the model 521V DATA Recording Card is 4 mega samples/ps.
